The Kinsman Blanket is the first blanket pattern I’ve designed. I’ve always shied away from blankets because I thought they’d take too long and that I’d get bored working on the blanket before I finished it. But lately I’ve been feeling like I wanted to try a blanket pattern, so I chose a smaller throw/lapghan size to start and then went for super bulky yarn and a large hook. And the Kinsman Blanket is the result.
I named the blanket after a mountain here in New Hampshire because I felt like I’d conquered something BIG when I finished this design! The Kinsman Mountain is part of the White Mountains of NH and the deep green of the trees leading up to the mountain inspired the yarn choice! If you’ve never visited our White Mountains, you are missing out on some spectacular views!
This is the blanket I’m going to curl up under on fall evenings around the fire pit!

The Yarn!
I chose Bernat Softee Chunky for this blanket; I love the feel of this yarn and the wide range of color choices. Plus, this yarn is machine washable, so I can throw it in the wash the morning after we’ve sat by the fire. You will need around 700 yards to make the throw.
Lion Briand Wool Ease Thick & Quick would also be a great choice. Make sure you pay attention to the yardage as it is different with some of the Wool Ease Thick & Quick options. Metallic & Stripes have less yardage in a skein than the others.
I would stay away from chenille or fluffy yarn, as the stitch definition would get lost, and that is what makes this blanket so beautiful!
You will also need a size M/13 9.00mm hook. The larger hook size helps make this blanket are pretty quick project.
