FREE CROCHET PATTERN: The Harbor Dishcloth

When I learned how to crochet, I didn’t start with granny squares and washcloths like most people, nope, I jumped straight into infinity scarves, lol.

Now after crocheting for over 5 years, I finally made a dishcloth/washcloth. Meet the Harbor Dishcloth.

This is a perfect project if you’ve gotten comfortable with all the “normal” stitches (single crochet, half-double crochet, and double crochet) because it will teach you a variation of the double crochet, plus you will get to practice stitching around a completed piece. And since it uses a small amount of VERY budget friendly cotton yarn, if you mess up or your first try comes out a little wonky it is no big deal.

The Harbor Dishcloth is also part of the Harbor Dish set which includes a dish towel, perfect for a housewarming, bridal shower, or just to freshen up your own home.

You can get the set on Etsy or Ravelry!

Sizing:

This pattern makes a 10.75” x 10” cloth, perfect for doing dishes or washing faces.

The Yarn!

I used Lily’s Sugar n’ Cream, which can be found almost everywhere and comes in SO MANY colors. I like this yarn because it is economical, softens beautifully with use, and is 100% cotton. This pattern uses about half a normal sized ball.

You will also need:

An H sized hook and a tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Abbreviations/Stitches:

CH: Chain

SLST: Slip Stitch

YO: Yarn Over

XDC: Extended Double Crochet - Yarn over, insert hook in indicated stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook). Yarn over and pull through 1st loop (3 loops on hook). Yarn over and pull through 2 loops (2 loops on hook). Yarn over and pull through last 2 loops.

Note: Chain stitches at the beginning of each row do not count as stitches.
