Free Crochet Pattern: Attitash Infinity Scarf

I love a good infinity scarf. I have always had trouble tying long winter scarves so that they kept my neck warm but didn’t make me feel like I had this huge thing tucked into my coat. With an infinity scarf, I just loop it twice (or three times if it is extra-long), around my neck put on my coat or wrap and I’m good to go. No fussing needed.

One of the very first items I designed was the Attitash Infinity Scarf. I wanted it to be warm, soft, and not heavy around the neck. Oh, and it HAD to be easy to care for…you know machine wash & dryable. I also didn't want to have to sew the ends together, so in the round was the answer. I know that is a lot to ask of a humble scarf.

You can find the free pattern below, or if you’d like a printable PDF version you can purchase it at a low cost Here or Here.

The Yarn!

I used Loops & Threads Charisma. It is a Bulky Category 5 acrylic yarn, because 1) I am allergic to most animal fibers, 2) it feels so soft, and 3) the yarn is easy to care for. If you do not like acrylic yarns, that is of course ok, use your favorite bulky yarn in your favorite color. After all the point it to wear the scarf, not keep in the back of your closet.

This scarf uses 218 yards.

You will also need:

An M sized hook and a tapestry needle for weaving in ends

The big hook and the bulky yarn makes this a very fast piece to crochet. Depending on how comfortable you are with crocheting with a larger hook, you can make this in an evening.

Abbreviations/Stitches:

CH: Chain

SLST: Slip Stitch

YO: Yarn Over

XDC: Extended Double Crochet - Yarn over, insert hook in indicated stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook). Yarn over and pull through 1st loop (3 loops on hook). Yarn over and pull through 2 loops (2 loops on hook). Yarn over and pull through last 2 loops.

Gauge: 4 stitches x 2 rows = 2” square

Finished Size: 59” around x 5.5” wide

Note: Chain stitches at the beginning of each row do not count as stitches.

Pattern:

Chain 100, SLST to join making sure not to twist your chain, CH 3

Row 1: XDC in first chain, XDC around (100 stitches), SLST to join, CH 3

Row 2: XDC across (100 stitches), SLST to join, CH 3

Row 3-4: Repeat Row 2

Row 5: Repeat Row 2 one more time, but do not chain after you SLST to join

Fasten Off, Weave in Ends

If you find that the scarf is just a little too tight around your neck, add 4 chains to the beginning chain.
