Favorite Summer Makes

I love soft squishy yarn that makes warm cozy items. And luckily living in New England I get to wear those items for at least 6 months of the year. But what about those all too short summer months?

Switch to light weight cotton yarn and make items perfect for the warm weather. Items like market bags & beach totes, cup cozies for those iced coffees that New Englanders love, summer shrugs, & sun hats, are perfect for crocheting by the pool.

My favorite thing to make in the summer is a shrug. There are times when you want something to cover your arms or shoulders, but it is still too warm for a sweater, even a light weight one. Enter the shrug.

Here are two of my favorites.

Gilford Shrug: This shrug is made with 100% cotton yarn and uses a large hook. The pattern offers 5 sizes from Toddler to Adult 3XL. It is made with a simple rectangle seamed to make the arm holes, so it is perfect for a beginner crocheter.

Grab the pattern off Etsy or Ravelry here.

Bristol Shrug: Made with a light weight cotton blend, this piece offers more coverage than the Gilford shrug, but again works up quickly in a few days. This pattern also offers 5 sizes from Toddler to Adult 3XL and is again a simple rectangle seamed to create the shrug.

Grab the pattern off Etsy or Ravelry here.

I am going to let you in on a little secret. I have a new shrug pattern on the hook right now. Watch for it’s release later this summer. Subscribe to be the first to know about new patterns, freebies, and discounts. Or follow me on Instagram for new pattern releases.

Remember to use #slfcreations, #gilfordshrug, &/or #bristolshrug on Instagram. I am looking forward to seeing your creation!
